The AreitoTaino Group Announces New Programs: AreitoTaino Play Developmental Series and Writers Collaborative Network

AreitoTaino Play Developmental Series

AreitoTaino Group takes original plays from the first draft to full production. Playwrights move through a complete developmental process: professional writers group readings, staged readings with actors, dramaturgical collaboration, and ultimately, performance. The series launched with “Ice Factory,” supporting the play through each stage of development to stage-ready production.

Writers Collaborative Network

Launching Spring 2027, this bi-monthly workshop provides ongoing support and mentorship to AreitoTaino playwriting program alumni. Writers continue developing their craft in a collaborative environment long after their initial production.

The AreitoTaino Play Developmental Series – Developmental History of Ice Factory

In 2025, The AreitoTaino Group partnered with The Company We Keep Theatre Production (TCWKTP) to launch a playwriting developmental series program. “Ice Factory,” an original play by Soraya Sussman, was selected as the program’s inaugural work.

The collaboration received a Queens Community Arts Grant through Flushing Town Hall, funding a developmental reading that became a pivotal stage in the play’s evolution. The reading brought together a diverse ensemble of local artists, community members, and cultural advocates from Queens and Brooklyn—the neighborhoods and voices that inspired the play itself.

This process demonstrated the aligned mission between AreitoTaino Group and TCWKTP: creating theatre that is artistically rigorous and socially grounded, emerging from and giving back to the communities it serves. The 2025 Flushing Town Hall reading and talkback transformed “Ice Factory” from a personal narrative into a shared cultural dialogue.

The play’s developmental journey continues in Fall 2026—more information to come.
