DESCRIPTION:About the Workshop\nThe Summer Youth Playwriting is a free 10-day program designed for young writers ages 14–19 who want to discover their voice through theater. No prior playwriting experience is necessary — just a love for stories and a willingness to create. \nLed by professional teaching artist Elena Vasquez\, this workshop takes students from blank page to staged reading. Each day includes warm-ups\, writing exercises\, peer feedback\, and one-on-one mentorship. By the end of the intensive\, every participant will complete an original 5–10 minute play. \nWhat Students Will Learn\n\nStructure of a one-act play\nCreating authentic dialogue\nBuilding compelling characters\nGiving and receiving constructive feedback\nPreparing a short play for performance\n\n  \n\nWhat’s Included (at no cost)\n\nAll writing materials and playwriting guides\nDaily snacks and lunch\nMetrocard transportation stipend (up to $40 per student)\nCertificate of completion\nTwo complimentary tickets for family members to the final showcase\n\n\nEligibility & Requirements\n\nAges 14–19 as of July 7\, 2026\nResident of any New York City borough\nA short writing sample (1 page max) or a brief statement of interest submitted with registration\n\n\nHow to Register\nSpaces are limited to 15 students.
